ICDE2005Tokyo

The 21st International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2005)

Ubiquitous Endeavor

---------------------

This year, we are providing an experimental service for enriching your experience at the conference.

Your nametag holder contains Hitachi Mu-Chip, a (passive) RFID tag whose serial number can be wirelessly transmitted to a reader device in proximity (< 30cm). Just show your nametag at large information displays. Your social network is then dynamically computed from millions of data records stored in a research publication database (special thanks to Michael Ley a.k.a. Mr. DBLP).

Two people, by showing their nametags at the same time, can explore interrelationships between their social networks/past research works. We encourage you to try it out with anyone you met at the conference and use it to find shared topics of conversation. (Additional services may be available.)

We hope all conference participants will find the service fun and useful, however, we also understand that some people might have concerns about such technology largely due to its privacy implications. To opt out of the service, please just remove the RFID tag from your nametag holder. More information can be found on the document titled "Information about Your Nametag."
